Passivhaus retrofit youth hostel

Originally a brewery warehouse and around 200 years old, this building became the first Passivhaus-certified youth hostel in the country. It is also the largest certified Passivhaus building in Gloucestershire, with the added complexity of being both listed and in a Conservation Area. We built a timber frame ‘building within a building’, to preserve the look of the exterior while allowing us to create an airtight, efficient and modern space inside. Great attention to detail was needed to ensure that we met our targets and obtained certification.
